My project is titled "Absent Reader." I love to read books. Books can be useful for obtainment of knowledge or just for allowing your mind to reach other possibilities and dimensions. Time brings constant change with each passing year. We have used books to gain the knowledge and understanding achieved and evident today, an era of progress and technology but, ironically, this very same phenomenon has also caused the decline in book readership especially in its traditional form of bound paper. There are many reasons which have contributed to this decline. First of all, peoples' lives have become busy with work allowing for a higher standard of living. Most of the people don't have the time or make the necessary time to read books. Many of those who enjoy reading have many other options and resources that technology offers today such as eBooks or the Internet. This could be attributed to availability of free time. Some people, for example, instead of reading a book, would rather watch the movie about a book rather than the book itself. Kids today would rather play video games, listen to music or watch TV than learning by reading books. Today, you don't have to read a book to learn about something, instead, you Google it! Although technology might have reduced the traditional forms of book readership, it has also opened the door to many new alternatives such as eBooks mentioned earlier. eBooks provide many advantages over their traditional paperbound counterparts. One such advantage is space. Books are bulky and, at times, heavy, which makes them more difficult to carry and more expensive to store. Another advantage is lighting. At times, the availability of proper lighting prevents the reader from reading traditional book. eBooks provide their own back-lighting virtually eliminating that problem. Additionally, eBooks and other digital formats have helped to greatly reduce the environmental impact that traditional books caused by using threes to make their papers and other required processing to manufacture and print them.
